A level homework, creative business ventures, training for the Duke of Edinburgh and planning shoots for Nothing Bad are an unusual set of tasks on any one persons to-do list, but for 17 year old Amelia Pemberton it’s all in a day’s work.
In an exclusive shoot for Nothing Bad, Amelia Pemberton puts some truly youthful joie de vivre into action and the rest of us to shame.
What have you been busying yourself with lately?
Homework, the Doobydoll launch party (www.doobydolls.co.uk), designing my new website, blogging and holidaying in Wales. I’ve also been planning and raising money for the Dofe Gold award for Tibet that I am doing next year!
What was your inspiration for this shoot?
My cousins Marina and Romilly, as I have always wanted to photograph them. When we found the harlequin outfit in the dressing up box I had to use it, it’s so cool and looked great amongst the colours of the fields and trees surrounding their Devon home. I wanted to try to make the pictures look old fashioned and magical so I used a vintage Olympus OM-1 camera.
What cameras do you own and which are your favourite?
I have a Brownie, Olympus OM-1, Lomo, Canon 35mm, Holga and a load of cool Polaroid cameras. I really want a Hasselblad and I’d love to learn how to use an old plate camera, but that’s more than a bit out of my price range!
Who are your favourite photographers?
Sally Mann, Tim Walker, Ryan McGinley and Valerie Phillips, I just did some work experience with Valerie recently, which was really great.
You are currently studying for your A-levels, what’s next after that?
I am studying Fashion, Art and Performing arts but after that I’m planning to do an art foundation course either at Camberwell, Kingston or Chelsea. Hopefully that will help me get to know what I want to do.
What’s your dream job?
I don’t know! Ideally something that combines everything I like doing. Being a photographer would be cool because I could figure out a way of including styling, illustration and music within it in some weird way…. I will work something out!
What advice would you give to a person your age interested in fashion and photography?
Don’t use Photoshop. I hate it! Experiment first and have fun
