The light in Russia is something to behold. Tanya Prilukova’s photographs make me want to jump on the first plane there just so i’m able to bathe in the same suspended eutopia as her subjects. All the way from Novosibirsk, Prilukova answers our questions.

What do you do when you are not taking photos?
I study advertising at University and live my life. I read books, watch films, sleep a lot, go for a walk look at photos by many talented photographers and so on. And I have to say that photography is a very important part of my life. There is no discriminate between my life with/without taking photos. I live with love of photography.

Light features quite prominently in your photos. Do you carry your camera around with you and wait for the right shot? Or do you plan all your photos?
I do both. I always carry one of my cameras with me and if I see something precious I use it. And also I have some ideas in my head that need planning. So as a result you can see what is going on around me and inside of my head.

What’s your favourite thing(s) to shoot?
I really love light in photos. And you know, everything can be beautiful. Honestly I would love so much to make photos of people I see on streets but i’m too shy to ask them. But I’ll collect my braveness to ask them some day.

What’s your favourite camera to use, and why?
Usually I just stick with my latest camera. by now it’s fed-50 and I always carry my Olympus xa2 with me because it’s small and the result is nice.
What are you working on at the moment? Any projects, or anything you are planning on shooting soon?
Yeah, i have some ideas for shooting in a wood or pretty old house. But I need light – this winter is too long and cold. So i’m waiting for the spring and light as hard as I can.
